For instance, describe your previous work experience as “Linux systems administrator”, and do not use a generic term; such as, “support technician”. Consider various aspects of your profession to identify appropriate keywords.

Step #3 How to Make your profile clickable

Once you begin to appear in top LinkedIn searches, the next thing you need to do is to make your profile clickable. What is the point of achieving a higher rank when recruiters do not even want to scroll down to your profile?

Do not use your CV for About Summary. Create a compelling story of your expertise, passion and goals. You have around 2000 characters to play with!

And never ever put a selfie as your display picture. Be professional!

LinkedIn displays only couple of lines from your About Summary. So tell the powerful stuff in those few lines in your first paragraph. It may be everything that convinces recruiters to stay at your profile. You need to come up with a creative assortment of ordinary words.

Step #4 Be active and keep LinkedIn Profile up-to-date

 

You need to complete all the sections in your profile carefully. However you do not keep your profile updated and active, you will not achieve the goals. Your activities on LinkedIn will give your profile the real kick.

LinkedIn algorithm loves fresh content. Your posts coming regularly becomes the feed for your LinkedIn Profile. Healthy profiles have greater chances of being searched.

Target your content. Post relevant articles and blogs related to the industry you want a job in. Like and share the articles that other professionals have posted. Not only that, you can try to write and publish your own blogs, short stories and articles on LinkedIn.

  • Recruiters also want to take a look at your portfolio. So, create a portfolio of power point presentations, cheatsheets, toolkits and add those into your LinkedIn profile.
  • Get endorsements and recommendations. Ask your colleagues, professors or managers to write a short para. It helps a lot.
